My name is Lisa M. Wallington and I am so excited that you stopped by our website. Money Matter$ LLC has been a dream of mine for at least 10 years before its official launch. So TRUST me when I say this: If I've held on to this dream this long, and persevered through all of life's challenges to see it through, I'm serious about Youth Financial Literacy.
I started teaching youth financial literacy in my home about 9 years ago to my two sons when they were in elementary school. I simply wanted them to have a better financial start to life than I did. I had no experience about how to have financial talks with my children, so I simply researched articles about money and had discussions about the financial topics with my sons...over fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and milk. Somehow fresh baked cookies always did the trick. Smile!
Fast forward a year or so after that first financial conversation, and I took a leap of faith and asked my son's elementary (and later middle) school if I could start an after-school program that focused on youth financial literacy for free and they said YES! And so it began. I taught financial literacy in Fairfax County for about 3 years. Those years of exploration sealed the deal for me. I realized that I loved teaching financial concepts, the children made me laugh so hard with their honesty (you wouldn't believe the places where children hide money), and the parents were grateful that I was providing a useful and valuable life skill to their loved ones.
Since my initial days and nights of teaching youth financial literacy to my sons, to school students, and more, I can say with full confidence, that I provide a service that is timeless, relevant, and instantly applicable to one's life.
I offer first-hand insights, the home-grown tried and true youth financial literacy curriculum, developed by me, that keeps students engaged and learning.
Money Matter$ Let's Talk About It!
It wasn't that long ago when I was 7 or 8 years old (well maybe it was). Nonetheless, I remember what it felt like, the excitement of money in my hand to buy whatever I wanted. Back in my day, it was Swedish Fish, Jolly Ranchers, Now-and-Later Candy and Hostess Cupcakes and Apple-Pies. Those were the days!
As time went on though, my needs and wants changed and the purchase prices similarly changed in the upward (more expensive) direction. I seemed to want more and more, and spent more and more, until I realized that it seemed to be no end to my desires and to my spending unfortunately.
Like many Americans, I experienced financial successes and pitfalls more than a few times. Over time, I came to realize that my financial habits had no foundation and I craved financial stability. Reflecting, I came to realize that I never had anyone sit with me as a child or as a teenager and explain how money worked, the importance of saving and investing, long term-wealth strategies or anything of the sort.
So, why do I do what I do? Simple!
I want to educate the youth and help them develop a healthy and positive relationship with money while they are young and have a head start to making responsible financial choices.
